Hello!
Get to know me.

My name is Abigail (Abi) Sánchez Méndez, and I am originally from Hidalgo, Mexico, but I grew up in Austin, Texas. I enjoy creating engaging, multimodal, and culturally rich learning experiences in the classroom.

I’ve taught and supported students at both the high school and university levels, creating lessons, activities, and a classroom environment that helps learners feel confident, curious, and empowered. I love integrating music, videos, collaborative tasks, and hands-on activities that make Spanish feel alive and relevant. My goal is always to meet students where they’re at, build their confidence, and show them that language is something they can succeed in.

I hope my portfolio gives you a clear sense of who I am as an educator and the joy I find in helping students grow.

Began graduate studies in Spanish Literature & Cultures, where I deepened my understanding of language, culture, and pedagogy. Through this experience, I realized that my passion lies not in research, but in teaching—creating meaningful classroom experiences, supporting learners, and fostering confidence in Spanish. This clarity helped me refocus my career toward becoming a full-time classroom teacher.

Completed my bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in Secondary Education. During this time, I discovered my passion for teaching through field placements, student teaching, and hands-on classroom experience. I developed lessons, created classroom materials, and learned how to support diverse learners—experiences that shaped my path toward becoming a Spanish educator.

Earned my Associate of Arts degree, where I built a strong academic foundation and began exploring my interests in language and education. This early chapter in my academic journey helped set the stage for my long-term commitment to teaching and lifelong learning.
